Gauteng traffic officers arrested 36 motorists and impounded 42 vehicles during high-impact stop-and-search operations conducted across the province.
Thirty-six motorists were arrested and 42 vehicles were impounded during high-impact stop-and-search operations conducted across Gauteng between July 20 and 26.
The weekly operations, led by the Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) and Gauteng Transport Inspectorate (GTI) in partnership with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), were carried out under the #RemoveSkorokoroCampaign across Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and the Sedibeng District Municipality.
According to the Gauteng Provincial Government, the integrated operations targeted high-risk public transport corridors and identified hotspots to improve road safety, enforce regulatory compliance and combat criminal activity.
During the week, officers arrested 36 motorists for offences including fraud, cable theft, contravention of the Immigration Act, attempted bribery, defeating or obstructing the administration of justice, driving under the influence (DUI), and reckless and negligent driving.
