Learner transport operators urged to comply with road safety regulations ahead of the new school term in Gauteng.
The Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) has warned learner transport and public transport operators to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and fully compliant with traffic regulations as thousands of pupils return to school for the start of the third term.
Schools across Gauteng reopened on Tuesday, July 21, bringing a sharp increase in traffic volumes on the province’s roads as learners, teachers and parents resumed daily travel.
The GTP announced that it would intensify learner transport enforcement operations across the province to improve road safety and protect children travelling to and from school.
"The Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) is calling on all learner transport and public transport operators to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and fully compliant with road traffic laws ahead of the re-opening of schools for the third term on 21 July 2026," the GTP read.
