The Saharan dust that began moving over Greece on Monday is expected to gradually spread across the country, according to AtmoHub, Greece’s atmospheric composition monitoring hub.
The dust transport will mainly be found at higher altitudes, with lower concentrations expected near ground level. The phenomenon is forecast to continue until Wednesday, when a change in atmospheric circulation is expected.
The highest concentrations are anticipated on Tuesday.
Regions expected to be most affected include Central Greece, Attica, the Peloponnese, Crete, the Ionian Islands, the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.
AtmoHub said dust levels at the surface are expected to be marginally elevated, reaching around 50 micrograms per cubic meter, particularly in parts of the southern Peloponnese, including Laconia, Messenia, Achaia and the Argolid.
