The Impeachment Committee will continue preparing for the possible impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa despite the Western Cape High Court’s decision to grant an interim interdict to stay impeachment proceedings.
The interim interdict, granted on Friday, was met with disappointment by opposition parties, who criticised the delay in holding Ramaphosa accountable. Build One South Africa went further, calling on Parliament to obtain legal advice on whether it should urgently appeal the ruling.
Impeachment Committee Chairperson Makashule Gana said the committee would proceed with its preparatory work, clarifying that only the public hearings and oral testimonies had been interdicted pending Ramaphosa’s review application.
“I have studied the full judgment of the Western Cape High Court and consulted with the legal team. The preparatory work of the committee will continue with the meeting on Wednesday, July 29,” he said.
