The aggrieved lawyers accused the Electoral Committee of plotting to rig the election and vowed to resist any attempt to compromise the integrity, credibility, and transparency of the electoral process.

Some aggrieved lawyers at the Port Harcourt Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) gathered on Friday morning as members assembled for the branch's election amid allegations that the Electoral Committee (ELECO) was attempting to manipulate the process in favour of preferred candidates.

The aggrieved lawyers accused the Electoral Committee of plotting to rig the election and vowed to resist any attempt to compromise the integrity, credibility, and transparency of the electoral process.

The protest comes amid claims that the Electoral Committee failed to comply with the branch's bye-laws by refusing to publish the voters' register before the election, a step the protesting lawyers described as mandatory for a transparent and credible exercise.
