A prominent Nigerian lawyer, Jibrin Samuel Okutepa (SAN), has launched a scathing attack on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) following the conclusion of its 2026 presidential election, declaring that he has "lost faith" in the association and accusing its leadership of presiding over a flawed electoral process that lacked transparency and due process.
Okutepa's remarks come amid growing controversy surrounding the just-concluded NBA election, which produced Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, as the association's president-elect.
Several lawyers had earlier alleged widespread technical glitches, voting difficulties and irregularities during the electronic voting exercise, with critics questioning the credibility of the process.
In a statement reacting to the election, which he shared on X handle on Sunday, Okutepa said the NBA had abandoned the values of credibility, objectivity, honesty and integrity that should define the legal profession.
