The controversies surrounding the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association national election have continued to deepen, as senior lawyers, candidates and members of the Bar intensify calls for a comprehensive review of the electoral process, writes ONOZURE DANIA
Although Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has been declared winner of the just-concluded presidential election of the Nigerian Bar Association with 12,317 votes, the outcome has been overshadowed by growing concerns over the credibility of the process that produced the result.
What began as complaints about difficulties accessing the electronic voting platform has snowballed into one of the most contentious post-election debates in the association’s history, with critics arguing that the NBA must first address its own electoral shortcomings before demanding electoral accountability from public institutions.
Leading the criticism is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and first runner-up in the presidential election, Lateef Akangbe, who described the exercise as “shambolic”.
According to Akangbe, the election has damaged the reputation of the legal profession.
