More details have emerged in the fatal stabbing of a 41-year-old emergency medical worker on the island of Syros, with surveillance footage appearing to support parts of the account given by the man arrested in connection with her death, authorities said Friday.
The 41-year-old suspect was arrested after the woman, an emergency responder with Greece’s national ambulance service (EKAB), was fatally wounded during a confrontation at the home in Ano Syros where he lived with his 31-year-old wife. The woman was questioned and later released without charge.
According to police, surveillance footage shows the victim approaching the couple’s home with her face partially covered while carrying a knife and a plastic bag. She also appears to be wearing the trousers of her EKAB uniform.
The footage shows the 31-year-old woman opening the door and allowing her inside. There is no video from within the house, where investigators believe an argument quickly escalated into a violent struggle before continuing outside.
Police said the suspect is seen throwing a flowerpot and a chair at the victim. She was later found unconscious in the street with a stab wound to her back.
