The National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an emergency warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, squalls and hail from Friday through Saturday morning, across most of the country, with weather shifting rapidly and intense conditions expected by Saturday.
The main hazards are strong rain and thunderstorms, accompanied in many areas by powerful localized winds, frequent lightning and the possibility of localized hail.
On Friday, orange warnings cover central Macedonia’s Pieria, Imathia, Halkidiki and Thessaloniki regions from late morning into the evening.
Eastern Thessaly, including Larissa and Magnesia, faces an orange warning from midday into the night, red for coastal waters.
The Sporades and Evia, mainly central and northern, are under red warnings from midday. Eastern Sterea – including Attica – faces an orange warning in the afternoon and evening.
