Twelve qualifications, a career built on technical expertise, yet Brigadier Dineo Mokwele was arrested and charged with fraud and corruption over claims that she was not qualified for her job, despite the prosecutor who authorised the case later admitting under oath that she had never looked at Mokwele's CV.
The admission by Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) advocate Andrea Johnson became one of the most closely watched moments of Thursday's proceedings.
As Mokwele's qualifications were presented before the Madlanga Commission, including a National Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering, a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering and evidence that she is studying towards an MBA, Johnson conceded she had relied on incorrect information from her investigative team when approving the prosecution.
Johnson, who approved the prosecution memorandum that led to Mokwele's arrest in June last year, acknowledged that she had neither reviewed Mokwele's job application nor examined her qualifications before signing off on the case.
