A 63-year-old woman died in a serious road accident involving two vehicles on the Sofia-Pernik road near the village of Vladaya on Wednesday morning.
The crash happened around 7:00 a.m. and involved a head-on collision between two cars. According to footage shared on social media, one of the vehicles, a jeep, crossed into the opposite lane before hitting the other car.
The driver of the second vehicle died at the scene, according to the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs, while two children and the woman driving the vehicle that caused the crash were taken to hospital.
Police, emergency medical teams and firefighters were immediately sent to the scene. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision.
Traffic in the area was temporarily restricted following the accident. The Road Infrastructure Agency announced that vehicles traveling toward Sofia were redirected through alternative routes via the Struma highway or Dragichevo, Vladaya and road I-1.
