The accident, which involved two passenger vehicles and a public transport bus, has become one of the deadliest traffic incidents in the Bulgarian capital in recent years. Investigators have already established that the two cars were engaged in an illegal race and were traveling at speeds of around 150 km/h before the crash occurred.
The first victims were two men from India, aged 27 and 31, who had been traveling on the bus. A third fatality, a passenger in one of the cars, was announced earlier by Deputy Mayor for Transport and Urban Mobility Viktor Chaushev. The fourth victim died less than a day later despite doctors’ efforts to save his life.
Eight injured people remain hospitalized across several medical facilities in Sofia. Some continue to fight for their lives as doctors work around the clock to stabilize their conditions.
