A devastating road accident near Mezdra claimed the lives of two teenagers just one day after another series of fatal crashes in Bulgaria left two children and a father dead.

The tragedy unfolded on the road between Mezdra and the village of Bodenets when a moped carrying a 17-year-old boy and his 16-year-old girlfriend collided head-on with a BMW driven by a 19-year-old man. According to unofficial information, the car crossed into the opposite lane at high speed before crashing into the moped.

The impact was catastrophic. The teenage rider, identified as Ivan Stoichkov, died at the scene. His passenger, 16-year-old Yoana Mitova from the village of Zgorigrad, was thrown several yards into a nearby tree. Emergency responders fought to save her life, but she later died from her injuries.

Police from the Vratsa Regional Directorate said the BMW driver tested negative for both alcohol and drugs. He escaped the crash without injuries. Local media identified him as Dimitar Todorov and reported that he was known for driving at high speeds. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the collision.
