Helsinki police suspect a 66-year-old man of killing an elderly woman outside Kontula metro station on Saturday. Investigators say the man admitted the stabbing during an initial interview and fled by metro before officers arrested him in Mellunmäki.

The attack took place outside the station’s C entrance shortly after 11am on 18 July. The victim, a woman aged about 80, died after suffering knife wounds in the public area beside the station in eastern Helsinki.

Police received information about the violence from emergency medical staff at 11.25am. Officers traced the suspect after he left Kontula by metro and arrested him in Mellunmäki at 12.36pm.
