Image: Sasha Silvala / YleYle News20.7. 10:34Updated 20.7. 10:36A roughly 80-year-old woman was fatally stabbed near Kontula Metro station in Eastern Helsinki in the middle of the day on Saturday, according to police.Police received a report at 11:25am on Saturday about the incident, which took place outside the station's C entrance.The victim died at the scene.In a press release on Monday morning, the Helsinki Police Department said that the attack was captured on surveillance cameras.Police have also said the suspected perpetrator, a 66 year old man, fled the scene of the crime but was apprehended about an hour later.On Monday, police said officers confiscated the knife used in the attack."The suspect confessed to the crime during interrogations, but the motive is still unclear," lead investigator Juha Piippo told Yle.The incident is being investigated as a case of manslaughter.In a press release over the weekend, police said that preliminary information suggested the victim and suspect did not know each other before the attack, adding that the investigation would continue.The site of the deadly attack. "After this incident, I'm probably going to keep my eyes open very carefully."Riya Loniya, who works in Kontula, said the incident has shaken her sense of security, adding that she felt Finland was a safe country until the fatal stabbing."It doesn't feel safe anymore," Loniya said.Meanwhile, Santtu Luoto said he thinks the media has particularly emphasised that the attack occurred in Kontula, but in his opinion it was an isolated incident.He said that he has lived in the district for 40 years without problems. According to him bad things can happen anywhere. He said the tragedy would remain in his thoughts, adding that he has no plans to change his daily routine based on a single incident.
