Father Petitions Ogun Chief Judge, Alleges Judge Ordered 28-Day Detention, Claimed To Be 'Acting On Orders From Above'

He also alleged that the presiding Family Court judge, Mrs. Somefun, repeatedly claimed she was "acting on orders from above," raising fears that external influence interfered with the administration of justice.

A father, Mr. Olufemi Olanrewaju Sowunmi, has petitioned the Chief Judge of Ogun State, accusing a Family Court judge, Mrs. Somefun Esq., of abusing judicial process, ordering his unlawful arrest and detention for 28 days, and frustrating the enforcement of a valid child custody judgment delivered by the High Court of Bayelsa State.

In the petition dated June 22, 2026, Sowunmi alleged that he was detained for 28 days after missing a Family Court sitting because he attended proceedings in a related divorce and child custody case before the High Court of Bayelsa State.

He also alleged that the presiding Family Court judge, Mrs. Somefun, repeatedly claimed she was "acting on orders from above," raising fears that external influence interfered with the administration of justice.

According to Sowunmi, the custody dispute initially commenced in Suit No. FC/MA/147/23, instituted by the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs before a Family Court presided over by Magistrate Mrs. Araba.
