A family in Ondo town, Ondo State, Fawehinmi, has formally petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing the agency of unlawfully interfering in civil family disputes already before courts of competent jurisdiction.

In a strongly worded petition dated May 25, 2026, and addressed to the Director of the State Security Service, Ondo State Command, Akure, the family’s legal representatives argued that the continued involvement of the DSS in inheritance and land-related disputes violates constitutional principles and exceeds the agency’s statutory powers.

The petition, signed by a lawyer, Oluwayemisi Olurotimi on behalf of the family, described the DSS intervention as a “grave constitutional aberration” and an “unacceptable usurpation of judicial powers.”

According to the counsel, the disputes involve internal family disagreements over inheritance, property ownership, and leadership issues within the Fawehinmi Family, particularly among the Arogbo, Alujonnu, and Tuja family stocks.

The petition specifically alleged that some family members had used political and governmental connections to escalate what the lawyers described as “minor family feuds” to security agencies, including the DSS, despite the matters already being subjects of litigation before the courts.
