Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova

Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova rejected claims that Bulgaria had undertaken any commitment to join the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” or any other international format related to support for Ukraine. Speaking to journalists in parliament, she said that no Bulgarian representative had signed such a declaration and that the country’s position remained unchanged.

"No one has signed any declaration. Our position remains the same - Bulgaria defends its national interest, but does not prevent its allies and partners from defending theirs and participating in the way they choose," Petrova said.

She explained that the document discussed after the “Ukraine - Southeastern Europe” forum in Kyiv was not a legally binding agreement and that such declarations are usually adopted in a prepared format rather than signed individually by participants.

"These types of declarations are not signed. They are constantly adopted in different formats. In this case, absolutely no commitment has been made for Bulgaria’s participation in the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ or any other format," the foreign minister said, calling for an end to what she described as speculation around the issue.
