Athens Mayor Haris Doukas called for measures and expert assessments to restore buildings damaged during metro construction in Kypseli after meeting representatives of Elliniko Metro and residents at City Hall.
The discussion focused on cracks and damage reported in 200 apartments in the area where metro works are underway. After what he described as a “very detailed discussion” with executives and management, Doukas said the municipality had asked for written guarantees on the structural adequacy of affected buildings, compensation and repairs as provided by law, and information once experts issue findings on restarting work in Kypseli.
He said the tunnel-boring machine has stopped and authorities are awaiting updates from experts on next steps. Residents’ representatives outlined conditions in the neighborhood and raised concerns and demands for immediate action. The Athens City Council also called for safety measures, a full investigation, rapid repairs and public updates.
