Athens Mayor Haris Doukas has called for written guarantees on the structural safety of buildings allegedly affected by metro construction works in the central Kypseli district, as concerns grow over cracks and damage reported in around 200 apartments.

Following a meeting at city hall with representatives of Elliniko Metro and residents, Doukas said the municipality was standing alongside affected residents and requested a series of measures, including independent expert assessments.

“We asked for written guarantees about the structural adequacy of the buildings,” Doukas said, adding that compensation and restoration work must proceed as required by law. He also called for a detailed update on when and how works on the new Metro Line 4 in Kypseli can resume after expert reports are completed.

The tunnel boring machine currently operating in the area has been halted pending further assessments.
