A selection of short feel-good stories from Slovakia.

Every week The Slovak Spectator brings you a selection of three short stories from across Slovakia from which pessimism and negativity are absent.

There is no infinity pool, no sauna and no spa menu. Instead, hikers arriving at the Ďurková mountain hut in the Low Tatras get to take off their boots and slip their tired feet into a tub of ice-cold mountain water. Simple as it sounds, the spot has quietly become one of the most talked-about hiking rewards in Slovakia.

This unusual "wellness" recently caught people's attention after Slovak hiker Nela Gogová shared it with her more than 100,000 followers. But the stop offers more than just a refreshing soak. Visitors come for hearty homemade meals, a welcoming mountain hut atmosphere and sunsets just five minutes' walk away, along the ridge line. Those who stay overnight can even watch the sunrise without leaving their sleeping bags.
