Amid the ongoing security crackdown on teachers’ trade union activists, several educators’ associations have issued separate statements condemning the judicial sentences handed down to members of the Teachers’ Association of Nurabad and Mamasani, as well as the continued detention of educators.
The Teachers’ Association of Bushehr Province issued a statement calling the sentences against Ali Ahmadi, Jan-Mohammad Ahmadi, and Shokrallah Ahmadi, members of the Nurabad and Mamasani Teachers’ Association, a violation of fundamental citizens’ rights, the Constitution, and the international obligations of the Islamic Republic.
The association emphasized that the trade union activities of teachers, aimed at defending the professional rights of educators, improving the quality of education, and pursuing legal demands, do not constitute a crime and should not be met with fabricated legal cases and security crackdowns.
Citing Articles 26 and 27 of the Constitution, the statement noted that forming trade unions and engaging in peaceful civic activity are citizens’ rights and that, by joining the International Labour Organization’s Convention No. 98 and international human rights covenants, the Islamic Republic is committed to protecting freedom of association and trade union rights.
