The Teachers’ Union of Mazandaran Province has issued a statement calling for the immediate suspension of final examinations in cities and provinces targeted by ongoing airstrikes and missile attacks. The union emphasized that insisting on holding exams under these hazardous conditions directly threatens the lives and mental well-being of students.
In its statement, the union highlighted recent strikes in areas of Bushehr and Bandar Abbas, pointing out that students’ safety while commuting to examination centres cannot be guaranteed. It noted that consecutive bombardments and explosions have severely disrupted the focus and psychological well-being of young people.
The statement also addressed the deep anxiety among families regarding the consequences of sending their children to testing centres during an active conflict. It acknowledged that many families have been displaced or are directly struggling with the fallout of the war, leaving them unable to provide the necessary support for their children. Under such circumstances, the union characterized holding these exams as “irrational, inhumane, and dangerous.”
The Mazandaran Teachers’ Union urged officials at the Ministry of Education to postpone final exams in all war-affected regions until stability is restored and student safety is fully secured. Additionally, the organization demanded that the ministry eliminate the mandatory “definitive impact” of high school graduation grade point averages on this year’s national university entrance exam, known as the Konkur, proposing that it be changed to a “positive-only impact” to prevent students in war zones from being academically disadvantaged.
