Amid ongoing judicial and security crackdowns on educators’ union activists, three teachers have been handed prison sentences and supplementary punishments, while another union activist has been arrested in Fars Province.

According to a report by the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teacher Trade Associations, Ahmad Alizadeh, a retired teacher and civil activist from Abdanan, was sentenced by the Ilam Revolutionary Court to two years of discretionary imprisonment, a one-year travel ban, the revocation of his passport, and 1,080 hours of uncompensated public service.

Concurrently, Azadeh Saleki, an active teacher in Khaf County who was detained during the January protests, was sentenced to five years in prison. Reports indicate that her initial sentence was 10 years, which was reduced to five years on appeal.

Following her arrest in January 2026, Saleki was detained for about a month before being temporarily released on a 3 billion toman bail bond. Reports indicate that the execution of this sentence could result in her official dismissal from the Ministry of Education. This teacher had previously been suspended for a month in 2022 while teaching in Torbat-e Heydarieh due to her union activities and classroom remarks, after which she was forcibly transferred to Khaf County.
