Coinciding with the ongoing judicial and security crackdowns following the January protests, a teacher in North Khorasan has been sentenced to 14 months in prison, a Tehran resident remains in temporary detention after 100 days, and two civil activists and former political prisoners have been summoned to the prosecutor’s office following a raid on their home.
The Coordinating Council of Iranian Teacher Trade Associations announced that Arya Nourani, an elementary school teacher in Maneh County, North Khorasan Province, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison in connection with a case linked to the January protests.
Following his initial arrest, the teacher was held in temporary detention for nearly two weeks before being provisionally released on bail. The court has now sentenced him to 14 months in prison. Protesting the verdict, the Coordinating Council has demanded that the case against Arya Nourani be dropped and has called for the release of all other imprisoned teachers.
In a separate case, the HRANA news agency reported that Mehran Koushki, a resident of Tehran, remains in legal limbo at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj after 100 days.
According to a source close to his family, Mehran Koushki was arrested at a Tehran checkpoint after images related to recent military strikes were found on his mobile phone. Security authorities have accused him of sending these images to foreign media outlets, a charge he has consistently denied throughout his interrogation and judicial proceedings. According to the report, following several interrogation sessions, his case has been referred to Branch 5 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court for trial.
