Starting tomorrow, July 14, exhumation work will begin at three locations in the former villages of Ostrivky and Volia Ostrovetska in the Volyn region.
Alina Kharlamova, an archaeologist at the specialized institution Volyn Antiquities, told a Ukrinform correspondent about this.
“The exhumation work will take place at three sites: Volia Ostrovetska-1, Ostrivky-1, and Ostrivky-2. These are two mass graves and a single burial. Using specialized equipment, we will remove the top layer of soil that we piled up after the initial search work, and then we will continue everything by hand,” Kharlamova noted.
According to her, Ukrainian and Polish anthropologists will be working on-site. Representing the Ukrainian side will be a team from the specialized institution Volyn Antiquities, while the Polish side will be represented by staff from the Institute of National Remembrance of the Republic of Poland and the Medical University of Wroclaw.
Following the results of a tender, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance will also engage search specialists from the Lviv Regional Council’s municipal enterprise Dolia to provide professional oversight (consultative support) during the research.
