The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) has unveiled its ambitious Institutional Development Plan (IDP) 2025–2040, a strategic roadmap that aims to transform the university into a globally recognised Multidisciplinary Education and Research University (MERU) and establish it as India’s premier knowledge hub for fisheries, ocean sciences and the blue economy.The IDP was formally released by VE Abdul Gafoor, the State Fisheries Minister at a function. He said that the IDP is a visionary blueprint that will guide KUFOS towards becoming a globally respected university while supporting Kerala’s aspirations in the blue economy.The university expects the implementation of the IDP to significantly strengthen research excellence, international partnerships, innovation, graduate employability, technology transfer and community engagement, positioning KUFOS as a leading knowledge institution serving both Kerala and the nation.The programme also honoured, A Biju Kumar, Vice Chancellor and faculty members Rajeev Raghavan, Gireesh Gopinath, Radhika Rajasree and Abhlash Sasidharan for their outstanding academic and research achievements, as representatives in the world’s top 5 per cent of scientists in 2025 in the 2025 Global Scientist Index by SciRank Global.15-year roadmapThe IDP charts a 15-year roadmap for academic excellence, research leadership, innovation, sustainability and global engagement. The vision envisages KUFOS as a premier multidisciplinary university integrating fisheries, aquaculture, ocean sciences, social sciences, technology and public policy for sustainable development, the empowerment of coastal communities and global leadership in the blue economy.The IDP also proposes five flagship centres of excellence inb lue economy and coastal sustainability; aquatic biodiversity, wetlands and oneh ealth; marine biotechnology and genomics; digital ocean sciences and climate analytics; and blue skills, entrepreneurship and community innovation.Published on July 13, 2026
