A 66-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly setting up a small marijuana farm concealed within a forest on the southeastern Aegean Sea resort island of Rhodes, police said Tuesday.
Following surveillance of the remote, wooded area, officers uncovered a group of 39 cannabis plants being tended by the suspect and took him into custody, a police statement said.
A search of the suspect’s home revealed cannabis seeds and more than half a kilogram of marijuana. The man faces charges of growing, dealing in and possessing drugs.
Police have busted a series of illegal farms across Greece in recent weeks, destroying thousands of saplings from which drug dealers had hoped to harvest millions of euros worth of marijuana.
