A court in Markapuram district on Monday (July 6, 2026) sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 for the harassment and murder of his wife. The judge of the VI Additional District and Sessions Court, Velpula Bhavani, pronounced the verdict.As per the case details, Gona Anitha (30), a native of Cumbum village and mandal, was married to Gona Satyam for 12 years. Suspecting her fidelity, the couple had frequent misunderstandings and disputes. On May 13, 2018, Satyam strangled Anitha to death with a nylon plastic wire.The then Sub-Inspector M. Rama Naik of Cumbum Police Station registered a case under Sections 302 and 498(A) read with Section 34 of the IPC. The then Markapuram Circle Inspector M. Bhima Naik conducted the investigation, arrested the accused, and filed a charge sheet in court. Subsequently, Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Karanam Vijayalakshmi argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.Under the guidance of District Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju, the accused was proven guilty. The SP commended the APP, police officers, and court liaison staff who played a key role in securing the conviction.
