The Mahila Court on the Madras High Court campus has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for stabbing a 29-year-old woman to death, following a quarrel with his landlord over non-payment of rent in Choolaimedu in 2020.

According to police, Chandramohan, 69, a resident of Choolaimedu, was living with his family. Narayanan, who had been staying as a tenant in his house, had reportedly not paid rent for six months. When Chandramohan asked for the pending rent on September 26, 2020, an argument broke out between them.

As the quarrel escalated, Narayanan allegedly attacked Chandramohan with a knife. When Chandramohan’s son Satish, and Satish’s wife Sukanya, 29, intervened, Narayanan also attacked them. Sukanya, who sustained severe injuries, died on the way to the hospital. Chandramohan and his son Satish were admitted to hospital and underwent treatment.

Based on a complaint lodged by Chandramohan, a case was registered at the Choolaimedu police station under various sections including murder. The accused, Narayanan, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

The case was tried at the Mahila Court located on the Madras High Court campus. The Choolaimedu police filed the final report and produced witnesses.
