The Chengalpattu District Mahila Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife at Kannagi Nagar, Chennai, in December 2021.

According to the prosecution, the accused, M. Arumugam, a resident of Kannagi Nagar, attacked his wife with a kitchen knife at around 4 p.m. on December 24, 2021. She sustained serious injuries and died on the spot.

Following the incident, the Kannagi Nagar police registered a case. Arumugam was arrested during the investigation and remanded to judicial custody. After completing the probe, the police filed a final report before the competent court.

The case was taken on file by the Chengalpattu District Mahila Court. After examining witnesses, hearing arguments, and following due legal procedures, the court found the accused guilty.

The court sentenced Arumugam to life imprisonment for the offence under Section 302 (punishment for murder) and one-year rigorous imprisonment under Section 342 (wrongful Confinement) of the India Penal Code (IPC). He was also fined ₹3,000, with a default sentence of three months’ simple imprisonment.
