The Mitchells Plain football fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of 20-year-old Standards United FC player Naeem Toyer, who collapsed during a Second Division League fixture at the Westridge Sports Complex on Saturday.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded during active play, leaving teammates, opponents, match officials and spectators stunned.
The Mitchells Plain Local Football Association (LFA) confirmed that Toyer's sudden death has sent shockwaves through the local football community.
According to the association, officials overseeing the match, representatives from both clubs, first-aid personnel and members of the Local Executive Committee immediately rushed onto the field to assist after Toyer got into difficulty during the match.
