Ireland’s priorities for its six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union were presented in Athens on Thursday, marking the start of the 18-month “Trio Presidency” shared by Ireland, Greece and Lithuania.

At a meeting of EU ambassadors at the European Parliament Liaison Office, Irish Ambassador Ciara O’Floinn outlined the presidency’s agenda.

“Our presidency … marks an important step forward in Ireland’s ever-strengthening bilateral relations with Greece,” said O’Floinn, adding that Ireland has worked closely with Greece and Lithuania to develop a trio presidency program.

The event also included the ceremonial handover from Cyprus, represented by Ambassador Stavros Avgoustides, following the conclusion of its presidency.
