The parents with the 3-year-old
"We are not playing with our kids future’s anymore…It’s a warning to every perpetrator who even thinks of trying something with our children, we are not playing with our kids' future anymore. You hurt one child, you hurt a whole community!"
The warning came from furious Eerste River residents after community members allegedly killed a 42-year-old man caught raping a three-year-old girl behind a shack in Forest Village an act that has laid bare years of frustration over crimes against children in the area.
Community leader Juanita Maboussou, said she tried to intervene and stop residents from taking matters into their own hands, but was unable to hold back the crowd's anger. Realising she could not calm the situation, she stepped away from the crowd.
"What happened that night was very unfortunate because a three-year-old child was missing for more than four hours. We didn't know where the child was. And when we eventually found the child half naked, all of us were angry. We were very angry," she said.
