The boys, who were 14 at the time of the first attack in Fordingbridge in November 2024, were initially spared custody by Southampton Crown Court in May. One of the victims and her family expressed that the increased sentences do not alleviate her fear and criticised the criminal justice system for its initial handling of the case. The Court of Appeal upheld the 18-month youth rehabilitation order for a third boy, Z, who encouraged X and Y in a second rape incident in January 2025, deeming it "appropriate". The victim’s parents are establishing the "Stronger than Silence" foundation to support other survivors of sexual violence and advocate for systemic change.
