A street arrest for contraband cigarettes and drugs in central Athens has led police to a stash of thousands of cigarette packs and half a kilogram of marijuana, police said Tuesday.
A police statement said a 28-year-old foreign national was arrested in the capital’s Kypseli district on Sunday after officers found him in possession of 20 packs of contraband cigarettes and a tiny quantity of marijuana.
A search of the suspect’s flat in the same area revealed more than 8,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes, the marijuana, more than 400 sleeping pills and 375 passports which police said were “of doubtful authenticity.”
