A man was arrested Monday at Athens International Airport for trying to smuggle nearly 5,000 packs of contraband cigarettes into Greece in his bags, authorities said.
A police statement said the suspect flew in from Cairo and his luggage was found to contain 4,802 packs of cigarettes that he had not declared. The arrest followed a tip-off, police said.
Several people have been taken into custody so far this year at Athens airport for smuggling cigarettes in from Egypt.
