Meteorologists from Bulgaria’s National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) are forecasting a hot and largely dry July, with temperatures expected to reach extreme levels across the country.
According to Chief Assistant Professor Dr. Krasimir Stoev, who presented the outlook for BTA, minimum temperatures in July are expected to range between 10°C and 15°C, while maximum values will climb to between 38°C and 43°C. Conditions along the Black Sea coast are expected to remain slightly cooler than inland regions.
The average monthly temperature is projected to be above seasonal norms. In most parts of Bulgaria, typical July averages range between 22°C and 26°C, while mountainous areas usually record between 6°C and 14°C.
Precipitation levels are expected to be below average nationwide. Most of the country typically receives between 60 and 90 liters per square meter in July, while coastal regions and the Struma River valley generally see lower amounts, between 30 and 60 liters. Mountain areas usually receive higher totals, between 70 and 120 liters per square meter.
The month is expected to begin with intense heat, with early July temperatures reaching up to 37°C. However, a passing cold atmospheric front during the first ten-day period will temporarily lower maximum temperatures to around 27°C to 32°C.
