Authorities have arrested a man identified as a suspect in the killing of a 25-year-old Turkish national in Athens’ downtown Exarchia district on June 13, police said.
The suspect, a 28-year-old Turkish national, was arrested Monday on charges related to drug and immigration violations.
According to initial information, investigators believe the man entered Greece illegally three to four days before the shooting. He allegedly told police that he had been recruited and paid 18,000 euros in Istanbul to carry out what he described as a “contract killing.”
Authorities have not released further details about the motive or whether additional suspects are being sought. The investigation is ongoing.
