New details have emerged in Saturday night’s fatal shooting in Athens’ Exarchia district, with police identifying the victim as a 25-year-old Turkish national.
Investigators said the man had entered Greece in 2024 and had no known criminal record, though he had been briefly detained twice in unrelated incidents in Athens and Volos.
The victim was found on the Strefi Hill steps near the intersection of Kallidromiou and Benaki streets with gunshot wounds to the face. Five shell casings were recovered at the scene.
Police believe only the victim and the shooter were present and are examining possible links to drug trafficking and a suspected settling of scores.
