A 30-year-old man arrested over the shooting of a business owner in downtown Athens this week had previously been detained in connection with a stabbing attack and drug-related offenses, police said Thursday.
The suspect is accused of entering a mobile phone store on Patission Avenue during business hours Wednesday and shooting the owner in the leg before fleeing in a vehicle with three other men.
Police pursued the car along Kifissou Avenue before forcing it to stop after a collision. Three suspects were arrested, while a fourth escaped and remained at large.
According to police, the same suspect had been arrested in 2022 over the stabbing of a man during an altercation at a food truck in the northern Athens suburb of Varybobi. The victim survived despite suffering multiple stab wounds, including one that struck his femoral artery.
