The group warned that the DPP’s continued delay in issuing its legal advice on the case could result in the suspects regaining their freedom while the child remains missing.

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Lagos State Branch, has accused the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of frustrating the prosecution of suspects who allegedly confessed to abducting and selling a three-year-old boy, Ibrahim Owodunni, six months ago.

The group warned that the DPP’s continued delay in issuing its legal advice on the case could result in the suspects regaining their freedom while the child remains missing.

The rights group expressed fears that the prolonged failure of the DPP to issue legal advice despite repeated court adjournments could ultimately lead to the case being struck out or the suspects being granted bail under the provisions of the Lagos State Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL).

Speaking with SaharaReporters, the Media Officer of CDHR in Lagos State, Segun Oluwasanmi, alleged that the father of one of the suspects has been mounting a campaign aimed at influencing the judicial process on the case by spreading “false information” that his son is innocent despite the suspect’s confession to the police and overwhelming evidence against him.
