Describing the incident as a grave violation of the child's rights, Obasi said the allegations went beyond issues of discipline or domestic disputes and amounted to serious criminal conduct under Nigerian law.
A human rights lawyer, Barrister Ikechukwu Obasi, has called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of a couple accused of brutally assaulting a child serving as their houseboy in Obosi, Anambra State.
In a statement issued on Monday, Obasi said he was alerted to the incident after receiving disturbing video and photos that had been widely circulated online, prompting calls for his intervention.
According to him, a couple identified as Oga Chelsea and Mrs Chisom, residents of James Obinna Street in Obosi, allegedly tied up their 10-year-old home help in a bush, abandoned the child without food, and inflicted severe injuries on the victim.
Describing the incident as a grave violation of the child's rights, Obasi said the allegations went beyond issues of discipline or domestic disputes and amounted to serious criminal conduct under Nigerian law.
