An investigation has been launched after an 85-year-old tourist from the Czech Republic was found dead in a hotel swimming pool in the Black Sea resort town of Primorsko, authorities in Burgas confirmed.
According to the Ministry of Interior press office in Burgas, the signal was received at around 3:44 p.m. on Thursday. The man had arrived in Bulgaria on June 23 as an individual, unorganized tourist. Police data indicates that he entered the outdoor pool, attempted to swim a few strokes, and shortly afterward his body relaxed and sank underwater.
Emergency medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The doctors confirmed the death on site. The body was subsequently transported to the Department of Forensic Medicine at the University Hospital in Burgas, where an autopsy has been ordered to establish the exact cause of death. Pre-trial proceedings have been opened.
Investigators said the sequence of events appears to have been sudden, with no immediate external factors reported at the moment of the incident.
In parallel context noted by Bulgarian media, a separate fatal drowning incident involving a child was reported a day earlier in the region, though authorities stress each case is being examined independently.
