Curro has hit back at City Power's claims that it owes more than R9.3 million. The school revealed that electricity to its Sagewood campus was restored within an hour after what it describes as an "unlawful" disconnection despite an ongoing court battle and a formal billing dispute dating back five years.
The private education group said City Power officials, accompanied by members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), arrived at the school on June 23 and disconnected its electricity supply without prior notice.
Curro told The Star that the disconnection took place despite a formally registered dispute over the amount claimed by the City of Johannesburg and ongoing High Court proceedings aimed at resolving the matter.
The school said power was restored within an hour after its legal representatives intervened.
The latest developments come after City Power announced that it had disconnected Curro over what it described as more than R9.3 million in unpaid electricity charges as part of an intensified revenue collection campaign targeting major defaulters across Johannesburg.
