Aletta Rose
Thursday's planned hearing to reveal the outcome of Aletta Rose's 30-day psychiatric evaluation collapsed before it could begin, after the Bellville Magistrate's Court was unable to connect with Pollsmoor Prison for her scheduled video appearance.
Rose, 63, accused of murdering and dismembering her sister Constance "Connie" Scholtz, was not brought before court on June 25.
The matter had been set down for the audio-visual remand (AVR) link after weeks of disruptive courtroom behaviour from Rose, including refusing legal representation twice, lashing out at the prosecutor, and declaring she would not attend court at all.
The magistrate ordered that she appear remotely rather than in person but when proceedings resumed after a few adjournments, court officials found themselves connected to the wrong section of the prison entirely.
