“Free Sowore now! DSS, channel your energy to arrest Turji Bello and bandits, not democracy activists,” the groups declared.

The Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance (CACOBAG), in conjunction with the Free Sowore Group (FSG), has condemned the continued harassment, intimidation and unlawful detention of human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, by the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, and signed by CACOBAG Chairman, Toyin Raheem, and FSG Public Relations Officer, Adeshina Isola, the groups berated Nigerian security agencies for prioritising the persecution of democracy activists while failing to apprehend notorious bandits and terrorists responsible for widespread killings, kidnappings and displacement across the country.

The groups demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Sowore and urged security agencies to focus their resources on combating insecurity.

“Free Sowore now! DSS, channel your energy to arrest Turji Bello and bandits, not democracy activists,” the groups declared.
