KwaZulu-Natal National Freedom Party chairperson Mbali Shinga has been suspended from party duties but remains an MPL and MEC.
KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Mbali Shinga remains a member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) at her own accord not representing the party despite occupying its only seat, says the party's secretary-general, Sunset Xaba.
This is after the faction of the party president Ivan Barnes had late last week informed Shinga in writing that she has been suspended from performing all party duties.
This suspension came shortly after the Pietermaritzburg High Court ruled that Shinga’s expulsion from the party should be temporarily stayed pending her internal appeal process.
As a result of the court ruling, the party issued a statement reinstating Shinga as the provincial chairperson, and Legislature Speaker Nontembeko Boyce reinstated her as the MPL.
