KZN NFP Legislature member Mbali Shinga has dared her party to take her to court to remove her.
Embattled KwaZulu-Natal National Freedom Party (NFP) provincial Legislature member, Mbali Shinga, has dared the party to go to court and seek an order to remove her.
In an exclusive interview, Shinga vowed to remain in her seat until the NFP leadership brings a court order instructing her to vacate her position in the Legislature. She was reacting to NFP’s threats to force her out through legal action after the Speaker, Nontembeko Boyce, refused to entertain the NFP’s letter requesting Shinga’s removal to make way for a new member.
"It was a court order that compelled the Speaker to stop the process of removing me, so that order remains operative until it is replaced by a new one. Unless the NFP leadership brings an alternative order to the one the Speaker and I have, I will not vacate my position," said Shinga.
Her interpretation was supported by the Speaker in a statement issued on Tuesday in response to the NFP’s attack. The NFP accused the Speaker of applying delaying tactics to keep Shinga in her seat to assist with the passing of department budgets currently taking place, as well as to present her Social Development budget on Tuesday next week.
