The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has moved to investigate a viral video showing one of its registration officials in possession of multiple identity documents allegedly handed over by an ANC member during the voter registration weekend, warning that it will not tolerate any conduct that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
The footage, which circulated widely on social media on June 21, appears to show an IEC registration official wearing official Commission-branded clothing in possession of several identity documents while seated next to an individual wearing ANC regalia at a voter registration station.
The incident allegedly took place at Okhela Primary School voting station in Ward 9 of the Victor Khanye Local Municipality in Mpumalanga.
In the video, the person recording questions why multiple identity documents were allegedly being handled by a single individual and raises concerns about whether proper voter registration procedures were being followed.
The IEC confirmed that it had become aware of the footage and that preliminary investigations had traced the incident to the voting station in question.
